RANSOMWARE GUIDELINES

Given the news that a second large-scale ransomware attack occurred over the past 24 hours, we thought we would share some details now we have investigated the potential exposure to future attacks. 

Hopefully, these few guidelines and tips will help reduce potential threats to you.

As a general rule, if you can make sure the following basic guidelines are followed, you can drastically reduce any chance of infection:

  • Be careful NOT to click on harmful links in your emails.
  • Do NOT open file attachments from unknown or untrusted sources.
  • Be wary of visiting unsafe or unreliable sites.
  • Never click on a link that you do not trust on a web page or access to Facebook or messaging applications such as WatSab and other applications.
  • If you receive a message from your friend with a link, ask them before opening the link to confirm, (infected machines send random messages with links).
  • Keep your files backed up regularly and periodically (Contact us for exact details).
  • Be aware of fraudulent e-mail messages that use names similar to popular services such as PayePal instead of PayPal or use popular service names without commas or excessive characters.
  • Use anti-virus and always have the last update (if you have this supplied directly by us, we will update this every week – Updates Wednesday evenings).
  • Use the latest updates from Microsoft (these will be completed by us on a Wednesday as long as you leave your computers on)
