Internet giant Google has secured several of the largest recruitment services in the UK for a local version of its job-hunting too, it has been announced.
Guardian Jobs, Reed, Haymarket and Totaljobs.com are among the online recruitment agencies who will provide their job listings to the search engine.
Global site LinkedIn has also stated it will provide Google with information on job openings.
The facility, known as Google For Jobs, will show browsers the ‘freshest and most relevant’ openings based on a user’s location when they input relevant terms into the Google Search box.
With this move being another reminder on how technology is developing, Syn-Star highlight three methods on how the digital age has transformed the way jobs are advertised.
Social Media
Social media has taken the recruitment industry by storm. Facebook, which was launched in February 2004, has an average 2.19 billion active users every month. Twitter has around 328 million monthly active users.
Networking through social media is continually increasing thus a greater number of jobs are being advertised through these platforms day-by-day. Even though social media is labelled as more ‘informal’ by a number of people, it has a huge part to play in recruitment.
Direct Recruitment
As recruitment sites grow in popularity, many businesses – especially larger companies such as national supermarket chains, choose to publish their vacancies on their own career portal.
These job listings are frequently advertised through social media encouraging people to apply directly to the company and not via a third-party agency.
Typically, the larger companies who advertise on their website have their own recruitment process. This suggests applying for a job online is no longer just about sending your CV and covering letter, referred to as the ‘traditional method’.
Recruitment websites
Job websites are everywhere. We live in a media-driven culture where advertisements are wherever we look and listen. On the radio, television, news sites and bill-boards, the list is endless. Online recruitment websites have radically changed the way in which people seek jobs, and how employers advertise them. The digital age has quite literally transformed the recruitment process for many businesses. Here are some of the top performing UK sites for jobs:
- Indeed
- Reed
- Monster
- Jobsite
